Work Holiday Party

We got a sitter, paid them a ton of money, and went to my work's holiday party. It was fun to get dressed up and go out alone. The party was at the Museum of Flight which was a cool venue, we ate dinner under the Blackhawk. The food was good, the music was good and it was a lovely evening.

1920's Murder Mystery Party

We hosted a 1920's murder mystery party for our friend James. Everyone dressed up so well and it only made it more fun. We had good jazz music playing, red Edison bulbs, rearranged our apartment to look like a café (the scene of the crime) and got to sleuthing. Roslyn even got in on it with her gold details on her onesie and a turban. 

30th birthday

We celebrated my 30th birthday last Friday with some good friends at a local brewery. We had giant pizzas, balloons, cake, and pitchers. My goal was to stay out until at least midnight, when it would then be my real birthday, and we made until 1:30am! That is by far the latest we've been up since Roslyn arrived. She slept in a carrier on Josh most of the night and she behaved better than we could have imagined. Joshua got to give her a bottle for the first time and she was changed on a bar bathroom floor (we brought a mat don't worry). It was a big day for her too :)

The cake was a fresh mint cake that makes the inside a natural green which is so pretty and a fun surprise and then I made a mascarpone-ginger filling and finished it off with a light frosting of vanilla buttercream, chocolate mushrooms, bee pollen, and edible flowers.

Very excited for this next decade. My 20's were better than I could have imagined. I hear people say they love their 30's even more though so I can't wait to see where it takes me. 

Joshua is 30!

This past week Joshua turned 30! We celebrated on his actual birthday by going out to a fancy restaurant with friends. Normally we would only go the 2 of us and it was a really fun experience to go out with a small group and be all fancy, order a bottle of wine, appetizers, a dessert with a candle. We all felt so adult.

Then over the weekend we threw a big party. There were balloons that lit up different colors, giant #30 balloons, glow sticks, disco balls and constant records playing. It was so great to see so many people we love in one room having a good time. It's my happy place.

We had prosciutto wrapped shrimp, butternut squash mac & cheez, beet salad on a stick (an invention I made that I think is genius, a big ol cheese plate with salami and olives and of course this year donuts galore! Joshua loves donuts, so I decided to do that instead of cake this year. It ended up taking about 9 hours to complete 4 different donuts with 3 different types of dough. I learned a lot along the way and mostly enjoyed it. His favorite was still his go to- pink with rainbow sprinkles. I also made a chocolate frosted with cocoa nibs, bourbon basil blueberry, and sugar & cardamom coated filled with lemon curd. It was fun to watch everyone try to pick donuts and see which they liked best. We didn't end up with very many left over.

I also made a taco piñata, his other favorite food, and filled it with chocolates and mini (plastic) bottles of liquor. I only made it with masking tape but it took about 12 people to finally crack it open. My lunch hour piñata making skills were stronger than I realized.

Joshua had a really great time and we finally headed to bed around 1:30am. Then on Sunday I'm pretty sure I spent the entire day on the couch barely able to move:)

Holiday Party

My office Holiday party was this past weekend. This year it was held in a beautiful sanctuary downtown that our company actually got to work on to restore. The top bar where the choir used to sit now has a giant circular light fixture and is called the Halo bar, awesome.

It was a lovely night, there was a live band to dance to, truffle gnocchi!, lemon tarts and a chance to dress up. We had a lovely time! And luckily I owned a dress that fit:)

Baby Shower Cake

Last weekend I also got to make a cake for a mama to be. We had a party for her draped in bunting, sipping warm teas, and guessing how big her belly was. It was a chill, intimate baby shower just like the mama. The cake was a cake meant to be enjoyed with tea. It was a dense almond cake with a layer of thinly rolled marzipan in between the layers which was then slathered high in mascarpone frosting. It was so scrumptious. The frosting was light and airy, not too sweet or sugary. The tart burst of the blackberries made it a perfect combo.
