Infinity Mirrors

The Seattle Art museum is having a Yayoi Kusama : Infinity Mirrors exhibit. Her work is funky, textured, whimsical and also quite deep. I've loved her orange pumpkin installations for years. My work sent out and email saying we could aquire free tickets so I jumped on it, fast.

Last week Joshua and I had our turn and it was really fun. I didn't tell him anything about the artist or her work which made me enjoy showing him even more.

Each installation was in a white box, you stand in line and got to go in 2 at a time for 30 seconds in each box to experience it. You could go back and redo them as many times as you like. Luckily I nabbed tickets near closing so we never had to stand in line for more than a few minutes. There was even something a bit fun about the anticipation while you waited your turn. It was also great to be the only people experiencing in that moment, didn't have to share space or be quiet. We really enjoyed the pieces and jumped back through to see most of them again.

 Then we went to dinner downtown and went home. Very fun, and cheap, date night.

Christmas Cards

I started out the Christmas card making process with ambitious ideas of block prints and multiple colors but I actually love the simplicity of where it ended up. It is happy and a little goofy.

It of course has a story: So the reindeer were flying along and singing Christmas carols fairly, taking turns, but then Rudolph takes over and selfishly bolts out a solo finishing the song himself- cause sometimes he's like that.

Guess what Seattle has snow this morning! It's quite lovely it is floating down very daintily.

Watercolor packages

 

My friend Jasilyn had written down on her 24 before 25 that she wanted to make a watercolor. So I sent her a message and we decided to get ourselves going and not slack off we'd come up with a topic and a deadline and mail each other our corresponding watercolor.

I usually loathe what I've painted but this time I actually quite like it, even if the second to last rock looks like a red potato :)

I did zen rocks for built because when we go hiking I like to knock over the zen rocks stacked up. Josh calls me evil but it's like how you'd build up blocks as a kid as high as you can so that you could then run into them. My zen is found in knocking them over :)

I love getting mail, to an  irrationally high degree, and this project has been really great for me to start being creative in my free time as well as up-ing my incoming mail :) Really hoping to keep it up with her!

Mini life Goal

I've always wanted to learn how to knit.
I've tried to learn multiple times and always given up in frustration.
This time I went to the yarn store and bought a nice skein of yarn to motivate myself
I removed the packaging so I couldn't take it back, I had to learn
So I started practicing on some cheap yarn and watched videos
I failed at getting it started a dozen times and then all the sudden one worked
and then another one and then I went on doing it until 2am that night
I did it!!! I learned to knit

And to solidify that goal I took it on the bus the next day and knit on the bus!
Not sure why but I wanted to do that almost more than I wanted to learn how to knit.
I've always thought people looked so cool, so even though I keep missing stitches
here and there I feel super cool on the bus :)

Have to practice more before I'm ready for the nice yarn, but I'm so excited
(Eeee! one of the many strange noises I made when I finally got the hang of it)


Also below is Hilary our newest plant (she's a venus fly trap)
I tried to feed her an ant and she wouldn't go for it, but eventually I will catch her in the act!

Art of all sorts

One of the gals from small group said our apartment is like a gallery- it kind of made my night. I love the artwork and photos we've collected and I love even more that most or them are personal to us- either have something to do with our lives, jokes, or from someone we love.

The new piece that finally arrived in the mail is no exception.
For our honeymoon we drove across the country and towed all of our bikes with us. We also biked everywhere on our honeymoon.
We didn't buy and souveniers really on the whole trip and we don't really want to post photos of it we took at an arms length all over but it was an experience of a lifetime but I still really wanted something to remind us of that trip.
I found this artist on etsy who uses maps and bikes and creates really fun collages. She happened to have one of
Colorado- including Boulder where we were for 5 days of our honeymoon and lived on our bikes
Seattle- our destination where we now bike more often than drive
and I had her make me a custom of Cincinnati- where we started and first got into biking.

I really love that it tells a journey and progression of our lives and it will forever bring back floods of memories from our unique honeymoon that only we can share in!


Also I made more postcards!
We absolutely love recieving all of your postcards. I can't believe how many wonderful people have though of us and sent us a little note and we can't THANK YOU ENOUGH, we really cherish them and hearing a little bit about you. We have them all kept in a cute drawer in our library cabinet!

Watermelon Lemonade! & Sculpure Park

We started the weekend off right with watermelon lemonade, caprese, and bread sitting on our porch. Yum!

Watermelon lemonade:
1. cut up a whole mini watermelon (seedless is best or you have to pick them out :/ )
2. mash the watermelon until all chunks are gone; I don't have a masher so I use a whisk
3. add a 1/4-1/2 cup sugar and mix; your preference
4. add 10-12 lemonade; not the koolaid kind the real stuff
5. add 1/2-1 cup cold water & mix it all
6. dip rim of glasses in water and then in sugar so they look cute
7. pour in glasses and enjoy, it rocks!

 We also happened upon Bike Polo promo downtown. I think we're actually going to go. The Bike Polo World series are in September here. My bike loving hubs was sold :)

 Really fun smashed pottery wall in Pike Place Market

 Sculpture park was so fun it was a gorgeous day and although  Hempfest (hahaha) was happening and ruined some of our plans we had fun running around the park. It slopes down and reveals more sculpture and paths as it gets down to the water. Plus we could just hang out in the grass. Anyone shocked I'm trying to catch the orange one :) haaha

 And of course gelato was involved. Raspberry and Blueberry!

We walked around downtown all day it was great but exhausting.
We miss all our friends and family a lot lately. But we've been skyping and such which has been really nice. Plus my friend Kayla sent me a bunch of Chicago newspaper crosswords which I'm obsessed with! How sweet is that! We really always think about how great the people in our lives are and when we feel down you guys always unexpectedly come through.

And my little sister Erika is in college already! Josh and I are so excited to skype and see her dorm soon. I know I'm not old but that makes me feel like I can say I do soon. I really hope she loves it and lets everyone see how awesome, amazing, and beautiful she is
