An Oberon Clone

 

This past Sunday began with epic plans so to be able to keep up with them all of course we first went to fuel up on donuts, then we laid around on the couch, and then we got to work. Joshua has an Oberon clone he's been researching and we wanted to brew it and then I got a cheese kit that we've been wanting to give a try so homemaker DIY Sunday it was.

 

According to Bell's website their Oberon may be described as: Bell's Oberon is a wheat ale fermented with Bell's signature house ale yeast, mixing a spicy hop character with mildly fruity aromas. The addition of wheat malt lends a smooth mouthfeel, making it a classic summer beer.

he wanted to use and how to vary it to his preference

so once it's bottled I'll post his custom Oberon recipe :)

Brewing Professionals

We're becoming beer brewing pros, at least we've decided we are. I found a really great coupon to brew beer at Gallagher's and I couldn't pass it up (my mom's fault I'm sure :) The night before we finally bottled our first beer, a Hefeweizen, the night before and then headed out to this place the next morning. It was great to not have to clean anything we used and instead focus on the beer and its ingredients. There were people there we could ask tons of questions to so that when we go home we can brew our own beer with more understanding.

This time we made an IPA. Joshua thinks I'll convert over to the hoppy IPA's  the more we brew and the more I handle the hops. I hope he's right because there are so so many IPA's out here. Their malt was in big vats and we got to use steam to heat it all up.

 

 We had a lot of fun and it was a perfect way to pass a rainy afternoon. We go back to bottle it in about 2 weeks :)

Homebrewers!!!

 

I bought Joshua a homebrew kit for his birthday and this Sunday we brewed our first beer in it. Joshua used to brew beer with his friends in Cincy and he has been wanting to get back into it. I definitely enjoyed it more because he already knew what to do. We started with something easy, a hefeweizen, bought our supplies at the home brew store, ground up our grains and got to work. The whole apartment smelled malty and hoppy as it boiled and it was fabulous.

We played a few rounds of darts on our new dart board while we waited. Very lovely Sunday!
We just hope we did it right.

 

 

 

 

 

10 Ticket Beer Tasting

 

A friend invited us the a beer tasting with over 30 breweries! We biked over and received 10 tickets each and a 6 oz beer glass- needless to say not many of us could make it through our 10 tickets. They had fun winter beer variations and a cherry porter with vanilla ice cream, pub food and it was all housed in an old elementary school with adorable wood stairs and original chalkboards.

 

We even met some new friends of a friend and they were the kind of people you meet, shake their hand, they asked what kind I was drinking, I said Porter something, handed them my glass, and without hesitation they took it to try it.

Love people like that! Which then led to a carefree relaxed night of sharing

beers and trying to decide how we would break a floor grate.
