Glass Mountain

Joshua found this hike that was a bit out of the way in California, we meant to make it there on our way to the wedding but it didn't work out. Once he showed me what it was we made sure to hit it on our way out. It is a field of lava rock and obsidian from a volcano eruption. The field of rock is immense. There are so many interesting textures, colors, forms in every direction. There is lava rock in every kind for formation and state. The most amazing though is of course the obsidian or volcanic glass.

There were huge boulders and fields of it scattered about in black groupings among the gray lava rock. The shine, the sharpness, the smooth texture were so mysterious and intriguing. We picked up so many rocks and kept exclaiming "but look at this one."

Didn't hurt it was a beautiful morning and that we were the only ones milling about but this was a favorite stop of mine.
