This was one of our favorite hikes. The day was stunning with a nice warm temperature, low key trailhead, and a hike full of amazing views. We'd walk through a beautiful low height forest to turn into a view erupting with mountains, rushing creeks and giant boulders over and over. A few times we even turned and caught a waterfall right next to us. We also had 3 fabulous interactions on the hike.
The first one was a group of people hiking out and the were waving their arms at us to alert us to a bear ahead. We cautiously passed by a pretty decent size bear about 10 feet off the trail happily eating berries. I've been wanting to run into a bear for years so I was terrified and very excited. He had no interest in us at all and never even looked up.
Second on our hike out some people headed in commented on us hiking with a baby "good for you taking her out on her first hike so early."
We had a very big laugh over this and spent the rest of the hike counting up how many hikes she had been on to date - the answer was 23!
Our third interaction was once we were back at the van hanging out and letting the baby lay around. A car drove past us, reversed and yelled hello. We both looked up and exclaimed - Alice! She was a climbing friend from Washington that had recently moved to Montana. It was so crazy that she was there at the same time as us, it was also mid-week! Then she also recognized us, she said well I saw a Vanagon with WA plates and thought 'hey I probably know the WA dirtbags that own that van those were my kinda friends'. We chatted for a bit and then she headed on her hike. Just one of those moments you can't believe happen and make the memory of the hike even more sweet.
